The financial impact of cyberattacks extends far beyond immediate expenses. According to research by Cybersecurity Ventures, the global cost of cybercrime is projected to reach an astonishing $10.5 trillion USD annually by 2025, a significant increase from the $3 trillion USD reported in 2015. While ransomware payments and data recovery costs are undeniable, hidden expenses include revenue loss, strained relationships with customers and suppliers, and regulatory fines leading to increased insurance premiums. The true cost of a cyberattack is multifaceted and affects businesses profoundly. https://lnkd.in/er6U4gzB #Cybersecurity #DataProtection #BusinessRisk #InfoSec #YourPartnerInSuccess

New York’s state budget process faced an unexpected hurdle when hackers launched a cyberattack on the commission responsible for drafting budget language. Lawmakers, already 17 days late in delivering the budget, received suspicious emails purportedly from the commission, written in Cyrillic language. The attackers are now demanding a ransom, leaving the state budget deal in limbo and highlighting the need for better protection of critical digital infrastructure. Despite the disruption, New York Governor Kathy Hochul remains committed to finalizing the $237 billion spending plan. https://lnkd.in/er4WdjKD #Cybersecurity #NewYorkBudget #RansomwareAttack #YourPartnerInSuccess

When you break it all down, what is #colocation? Well, it's simply the practice of renting physical space within a data center to host servers and other IT equipment. And why would you look at colocating your infrastructure? Enhanced Connectivity: Colocation provides businesses with access to robust network connectivity options, allowing seamless communication and data transfer between servers and external networks. Cost Savings: By utilizing shared data center infrastructure, businesses can reduce costs associated with building and maintaining their own facilities. This includes savings on power, cooling, security, and maintenance. Scalability: Colocation facilities offer flexibility for businesses to scale their IT infrastructure as needed. Whether you need additional server space or want to expand your operations, colocation allows for seamless growth. Uptime and Reliability: Data centers are designed with redundant power sources, efficient cooling systems, and robust security measures. This ensures high availability and minimizes downtime for critical applications. Security and Compliance: Colocation providers implement stringent security protocols, including physical access controls, surveillance, and fire suppression systems. Additionally, compliance with industry standards (such as SOC or HIPAA) is easier to achieve in a secure colocation environment. Take a look at INOC and achieve the peace of mind you've been after. https://lnkd.in/etzQG73 #Albany #DataCenter #Infrastructure #NewYork

#PaloAlto users, be on the lookout! Researchers have discovered a critical zero-day vulnerability (CVE-2021-3064) in Palo Alto Networks’ GlobalProtect firewall. This vulnerability allows unauthenticated remote code execution (RCE) on multiple versions of PAN-OS 8.1 prior to 8.1.17, affecting an estimated 10,000 vulnerable firewalls. If successfully exploited, an attacker gains control over the firewall, accessing sensitive configuration data and credentials. Palo Alto has issued patches to address this security flaw. https://lnkd.in/guAqmSPE #RCE #Firewall #Vulnerability #YourPartnerInSuccess

Ford recently announced a change in its electric vehicle (EV) strategy. Instead of rushing to launch new EV models, the company is delaying some releases and focusing on hybrids. This move comes as a response to the oversaturation of the EV market. Manufacturers overestimated the demand for EVs, resulting in too many options available for the current market. Ford aims to build a full EV lineup but will now introduce some models later to allow the consumer market to develop further. Simultaneously, Ford plans to expand its hybrid offerings across its existing combustion engine vehicles. In an equally surprising move, Tesla decided to shelve its highly anticipated $25,000 EV, which was originally slated for next year. Instead, the company is focusing on developing a robotaxi. This decision reflects the challenges faced by EV manufacturers. Despite Tesla’s dominance, the overall EV market has slowed down, and competition from Chinese manufacturers has intensified. Tesla reported an 8.5% year-over-year sales decline in Q1. Both Ford and Tesla are adapting to this slowdown by adjusting their EV programs, emphasizing the need for strategic flexibility in the rapidly evolving automotive landscape. https://lnkd.in/e-VaVxDi #EVMarketShift #Ford #Tesla #YourPartnerInSuccess

And it's a RECORD! A record 147 flaws in Windows and related software. In April’s Patch Tuesday, Microsoft released a staggering 147 security updates to address vulnerabilities in Windows, Office, Azure, .NET Framework, Visual Studio, SQL Server, DNS Server, Windows Defender, Bitlocker, and Windows Secure Boot. This marks the largest release from Microsoft this year and the largest since at least 2017. While there are no known zero-day vulnerabilities this month, several noteworthy issues include an Outlook for Windows spoofing vulnerability, a hard-coded credential flaw in Azure’s search backend infrastructure, and a weakness allowing attackers to bypass Windows SmartScreen. Despite the sheer volume of patches, many of the bugs are rated as “important,” emphasizing the need for prompt updates to safeguard systems against potential exploitation. https://lnkd.in/emiBnR_8 #PatchTuesday #Cybersecurity #MicrosoftUpdates #YourPartnerInSuccess

While AI will be good for certain things, it won't be the be all, end all. In a recent research paper titled “Re-evaluating GPT-4’s bar exam performance,” the claim that ChatGPT (GPT-4) aced the bar exam is put under scrutiny. OpenAI had previously boasted that ChatGPT performed exceptionally well on a “simulated bar exam,” placing it in the top 10% of test-takers. However, the new study, authored by Eric Martínez, a PhD student at MIT and a Harvard Law School graduate, challenges this assertion. The research reevaluates ChatGPT’s performance against a more representative group of test-takers and questions the methodology used for essay grading. While ChatGPT’s multiple-choice score remains consistent, its essay performance is called into question. Rob Scott, managing partner of intellectual property and IT law firm Scott & Scott, acknowledges that large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT are adept at summarizing and outlining but may struggle with legal analysis. The study raises transparency and safety concerns in AI development, yet it offers a mild sense of relief to legal professionals regarding essay writing. https://lnkd.in/eYqnDkhq #LegalTech #NaturalLanguageProcessing #ProfessionalInsights #YourPartnerInSuccess

Earlier today, Cloudflare, in collaboration with Google and Amazon AWS, unveiled a novel zero-day vulnerability known as the “HTTP/2 Rapid Reset” attack. This vulnerability exploits a weakness in the HTTP/2 protocol, resulting in massive, hyper-volumetric Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks. The impact has been staggering, with Cloudflare mitigating an attack that surpassed 201 million requests per second (rps)—three times larger than any previous observed attack. The vulnerability leverages the stream cancellation feature of HTTP/2, allowing threat actors to inundate servers and applications running the standard implementation of this protocol. Despite the relatively small botnet size (approximately 20,000 machines), the attack’s potency underscores the critical need for protection against this menace. https://lnkd.in/gzrbZhf4 #CyberSecurity #Vulnerability #DDoSAttacks #WebSecurity #YourPartnerInSuccess

As organizations adapt to dynamic work environments, the landscape of secure access service edge (SASE) solutions is rapidly evolving. Here are two key trends to watch: Organizations are increasingly turning to single-vendor SASE solutions. These comprehensive offerings provide all necessary components—such as SD-WAN and firewall services—from a single company. The benefits include streamlined deployment, efficient management, and predictable ROI. Estimates suggest that adopting a single-vendor SASE can significantly reduce existing costs. The simplicity of procurement—seamless licensing, a single SKU, and straightforward deployment—further contributes to the rising popularity of single-vendor SASE. Unified SASE facilitates the adoption of zero-trust technology, which focuses on real-time validation and verification based on user and device behavior. Unlike periodic checks, zero trust ensures that connections, agents, users, and devices are trusted within seconds. As organizations grapple with hybrid workforces, IoT devices, and a multitude of applications, unified SASE helps fast-track the zero-trust journey by enhancing security and agility. Stay informed and secure! https://lnkd.in/gHwRKFJN #Cybersecurity #SASE #ZeroTrust #TechTrends2024 #YourPartnerInSuccess
